How do I set up Surfshark MacOS?
Use the following steps to set up Surfshark MacOS.
Step 1: Log into your Surfshark account

Step 2 Download the Surfshark VPN app for MacOS
In your main account screen, click “MacOS” under the “Apps and Extensions” header.
Which Surfshark MacOS app?
In the “Download Surfshark for macOS” dialog, choose either a direct download or the link to the Apple MacOS store.
Surfshark Direct Download
Surfshark’s direct download VPN app comes with a true kill switch, but it only offers OpenVPN TCP/UDP protocols. The killswitch terminates your internet connection.
Surfshark App Store
The Surfshark VPN app from the Apple App Store for MacOS gives you more protocol options, including OpenVPN TCP/UDP, Wireguard, IkeV2, and Shadowsocks.
The App Store version of Surfshark doesn’t have a true killswitch. However, It has Apple Killswitch, which is on the App Store version, automatically reconnects you to the VPN servers if the connection is lost, as an alternative.
We recommend that you download Surfshark from the Apple App Store. (The “direct download” version has limited protocols.)
Clicking the “Download from the App Store” link will open the App Store on your Mac.
Click the “GET” button.

Step 3 Launch Surfshark VPN Mac OS App

Step 4 Configure and Connect

We recommend that you configure Surfshark with the “Fastest server” option. You may, however, you may choose from any listed country. Scroll down the list to see all available options.
Add VPN Configuration
You must allow Surfshark to add a MacOS VPN configuration.
A MacOS dialog box will open. It says, “‘Surfshark’ Would Like to Add VPN Configurations. All network activity on this Mac may be filtered or monitored when using VPN.”
Click the “Allow” button.
The Surfshark app will now connect to your chosen VPN. The Surfshark window will look something like the below image.
When you’re connected, the Surfshark icon in the MacOS menu bar will turn white.
Step 5 Configuration Options
You can choose from available options to customize your Surfshark VPN experience.
On the Locations tab
Use the “Static IP” tab to choose from available static IPs. Scroll down the list to see all available options.
Surfshark’s “Multihop” feature routes your traffic through multiple VPN servers. This feature improves your privacy and anonymity, but will reduce the speed of your internet connection.
The Surfshark Features tab
Configure Surfshark VPN to block annoying adds and trackers. Setting this option to “On” may improve your internet speed by reducing the amount of network data sent through your VPN connection.

The Surfshark Settings tab
On the “Settings” tab, you’ll see your current app version and have the option to check for updates.
Set the “Open at Login” option to “On” to have Surfshark automatically start with your computer.
Show dock icon
Switch the “Show dock icon” option to “On” to have Surfshark appear in your MacOS Dock.
Choose whether to connect Surfshark to Wi-Fi networks automatically.
Use the “Auto-connect preferences” menu to choose “trusted” networks to which you want to connect without Surfshark VPN protection.
Have Surfshark disable your network connection when you loose your VPN connection. Use this option to prevent MacOS from routing your data unprotected when your VPN connection is lost.

This option displays your current VPN protocol. By default, Surfshark will set this automatically.
You can manually choose your VPN protocol by clicking the “Protocol” button. Choices are:
