How do I set up Surfshark MacOS?

Use the following steps to set up Surfshark MacOS.

Step 1: Log into your Surfshark account

Step 2 Download the Surfshark VPN app for MacOS

In your main account screen, click “MacOS” under the “Apps and Extensions” header.

Which Surfshark MacOS app?

In the “Download Surfshark for macOS” dialog, choose either a direct download or the link to the Apple MacOS store.

Step 4 Configure and Connect

We recommend that you configure Surfshark with the “Fastest server” option. You may, however, you may choose from any listed country. Scroll down the list to see all available options.

You must allow Surfshark to add a MacOS VPN configuration.

A MacOS dialog box will open. It says, “‘Surfshark’ Would Like to Add VPN Configurations. All network activity on this Mac may be filtered or monitored when using VPN.”

Click the “Allow” button.

The Surfshark app will now connect to your chosen VPN. The Surfshark window will look something like the below image.

Step 5 Configuration Options

You can choose from available options to customize your Surfshark VPN experience.

On the Locations tab

Static IP

Use the “Static IP” tab to choose from available static IPs. Scroll down the list to see all available options.

You can choose a static IP from any available country.

Surfshark’s “Multihop” feature routes your traffic through multiple VPN servers. This feature improves your privacy and anonymity, but will reduce the speed of your internet connection.

Set the “Open at Login” option to “On” to have Surfshark automatically start with your computer.

Switch the “Show dock icon” option to “On” to have Surfshark appear in your MacOS Dock.


Choose whether to connect Surfshark to Wi-Fi networks automatically.

Use the “Auto-connect preferences” menu to choose “trusted” networks to which you want to connect without Surfshark VPN protection.

Kill switch

Have Surfshark disable your network connection when you loose your VPN connection. Use this option to prevent MacOS from routing your data unprotected when your VPN connection is lost.
